2 Simple Ways to Move More Throughout the Day

As humans, we are designed to move.  The more we move, the better we feel.  So today I am going to share with you two movements you can do throughout the day to give your body exactly what it needs to thrive.

1. Build Strength and Coordination

One of my favorite movements to use throughout the day is crawling.  I suggest choosing a space in your house that will be your “crawl space”, like a hall you walk down often.  Whenever you would walk down the hall, crawl instead.

To crawl, get on your hands and knees, then lift your knees off the ground slightly so you are on your hands and feet.  Move forward using a contralateral movement: opposite arm, opposite leg.  Aim to lift and place the opposite hand and foot at the same time.

Crawling will give you a nice, gentle full-body challenge.  It will increase core strength and shoulder strength, as well as coordination, all in one little movement!

2. Enhance Shoulder and Spine Health

This movement requires something to hang from, like a doorway pull up bar.  Simply grip the bar and allow yourself to hang completely relaxed (except for your grip!).  If this hurts your shoulders at first, place something under your feet to support your weight.

Hanging will improve your overhead reach and lengthen your spine.  Plus, it feels amazing!  If you find it challenging at first, hang in there (pun intended).  Your grip strength will improve over time, an added bonus!

Whenever you walk past your pull up bar, take 5 or 10 seconds to hang.  This will add up throughout the day and will leave you feeling amazing!

Get Moving

The more you move, the better you will feel and the healthier your joints will be.  If you’re tired of stiffness or achy joints, start adding these little movements throughout your day.  Your body will thank you.

Keep transforming.
